Jack, How much difference is there in sound from the all wood vs. the plastic tube? Which do you like better? Those calls are some good lookers. Troy
The sound is good enough that I have been making them for over 20 years. Most of my long time customers will not buy anything except the old style all wood grunt calls.
I was one of the original all wood deer grunt makers. Way before the plastic tubes or the toneboards were ever available to callmakers. Not sure as to when I first made a deer grunt call but off the top of my head I think it was in the late 1980's. I used a basic Louisiana style board that was extra long as was the reed. The first calls were not as long as the all wood grunters are today, more in the size of a goose call. As the years went on, the length got longer.
Then came the plastic tubes and the kit forms of the grunt call. Some where about 5 years ago Vince asked about some way to hold the tube on and I smarted off about using screws. Then mentioned the all wood grunt calls that I made. Soon after I posted a photo and the rest is history.
