Dyeing alumilite???
« on: September 11, 2012, 11:18:51 AM »
I was wondering if you could use the crafting craft dyes for polyester resin in alumilite?  Thanks. Waylon.

Sorry, Waylon, I did not see your message today or I would have replied sooner.  I would not use polyester resin dye in Alumilite.  It may work, but then again, it may not and you might ruin some expensive dye.  Alumilite dyes are only $4.50 per bottle direct from Alumlite or they are available at Hobby Lobby if you have one of those near you.  Alumilite's dye is made with polyol as the carrier which is one of the components of Alumilite so they are made to work specifically with Alumilite and cross link properly with the resin when it polymerizes.

Hope that helps some.

Curtis, thanks for the info. After posting this, I went ahead and tryied using them. FYI, they do not work. The alumilite bubbled up real bad with the PR dyes. So for anybody else wondering they do not work.
