5/8 acrylic ?
« on: April 25, 2012, 10:51:11 AM »
I was fixing to order some 5/8 cast acrylic from delvies plastics inc. I'm looking at making duck call toneboards with it. Does anyone here order their acrylic from delvies and does the 5/8 stock usually measure a little over .625? I called but was only told it has a tolerance. I didn't ask but I'm sure its only +/- a few thousandths. I hate to put in a big order and it be too small for a toneboard. If it will go straight out of the box into the collet chuck would be great.

Yeah its normally oversized a bit.
Of all the things I've lost while call making...its my mind I miss the most.
"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says is never accurate because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.

The 5/8" I've got from them has been oversized a little.  Won't fit in my 5/8" collet out of the box.

Usually .010-.020" oversize...  just enough to be a pain.  Too much to sand off usually and enough that cutting it feels like overkill.

Least thats what Ive seen over the years.

Anyone ever gotten any from anywhere that is a true 5/8"..or close enought that it will fit in a 5/8" chuck without cutting/sanding it down?

Closest youll likely find is polished grade rather than machine grade, but I would still expect it to be .005 oversize or so.
