Sanding pads

(1/1)

HaMeR:
I've been sanding thru 400gr then burnishing the blank with burlap that I've rubbed against itself & softened up. Then applied the finish. It's been a good system but on occasions it will leave scratches that I have to go back over. So I decided to try the Abralon pads after the 400grit. I picked up the 500/1000/2000/4000 pack & followed the directions exactly. They say to use slight pressure for just a few seconds then turn the lathe off & sand lengthwise with slight pressure. You'll see some wood being removed on the 1st two grits but nearly nothing on the 2nd two as the wood starts to shine. Then I apply the finish & some HUT PPP over top & buff it out.

Here's the Abralon pads.

Here's the finishing kit I got.

Heck, like everyone else I am always looking for a better finish. I'll have to give those a try. Thanks for the tip.

HaMeR:
You're Welcome!! Hope they work for you too!!

I used them on a piece of acrylic last Sunday that another turner spun up & he said he liked it for that too.
