Met with Governor Brownback this morning and presented the call in his office. He was thrilled with it and was eager to try it out. Took him about a minute, but he was making decent turkey sounds after a little instruction. I told him that hopefully he wouldn't get skunked on this year's hunt like he did on last year's, but he needed to work on his calling.
He was very nice, and loved the fact that I made a walnut stand to go with it. He vowed to place it on the shelf in the background (above his desk) so it would be visible whenever he signs a bill. The bummer with an osage striker and the black aluminum is that it leaves little yellow track marks all over it, and of course the newspaper reporters that took pics of the call got pics of it with tons of little yellow circles all over it. I told him that I grew up hunting on his brother's land and that we know some of the same people, and he said that I could hunt on his land anytime I wanted...I thanked him but didn't feel right trying to take him up on that today. All in all, a good experience.
