Padauk and Blackwood Deer Grunt
« on: October 07, 2008, 06:39:05 PM »
My latest deer grunt.  I made this one out of padauk and African blackwood.  Finished with teak and polyurethane.

Looks great Marvin.  It has very classy lines that are easy on the eyes. 8)

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

I really like the lloks of that one too. Especially the double lanyard groove. Great for deer hunting from a tree stand.
;D But you already knew that huh?  ;D ;D

Thanks for the comments. I have another one just like it, this one is already sold.  The double lanyard was almost a necessity on this one being a 2 part call.  Figuring what he paid for it I thought it best to make sure he didn't lose half of it before he gave it to his wife.  She is more of a hunter than he is, I bet she spends at least a week or more in the pasture than he does during deer season.

Tree stands, in my part of Texas tree stands are about like scrap steel.  On our place there isn't a tree big enough for a tree stand, If you want to get up high you have to build a tower or use a tripod. I can see for a mile to the west and the south, to the north only about 1/4 mile and that is because of salt cedar bushes.  To the east I can see the blinking light in the small town that is 5 miles away.  Sometimes when you see a deer headed your way you have time to take a nap before it gets there.
