Echo Goose inserts
« on: February 14, 2012, 10:29:26 AM »
Ok, I have some questions about echo goose inserts. I just ordered some and I need some information.  1. How big does the hole need to be for the insert? 2. How long should the barrel be for the insert?  I figured the barrel would need to be about 2 7/8" to 3 1/4" cause thats what I used for my other barrels and i figured the barrel hole would need to be 3/4". Any help would be appreciated cause I have never used echo inserts before and I have a couple people asking for them.
Thanks

The hole for the insert needs to be 7/8".  I neck mine down from 7/8 to 3/4 to 5/8.  Only one step to 3/4 makes them too hard to blow for my liking.  I use the inserts and those guts because they are easy for folks to use.

Thank you for the help. I have not done many goose calls. I had a couple people request echo inserts and so here I go into something I have never done. I really appreciate the info.

Make sure you are drilling on the lathe.  It is all but impossible to step drill those three steps on a press and have the call come out looking decent.

second Parker on that. I scrapped my first couple calls after using the drill press to step them down, using the lathe gets it right every time
