First Pen of 2012
« on: February 14, 2012, 04:20:03 PM »
I finally got some time to turn today and decided to make pen for myself... which will probably end up with my wife. It's been a while since I've made any so it's not exactly as I wanted it, but after a few I'll be off to the races again.

The pictures aren't great, but the components are Platinum and black TI and the blank is Sycamore with a little action in it.

Nice pen. That piece of Sycamore is very nice. I only ever find the plain Jane straight grain stuff.

Hamer... Sycamore usually is kind of plain looking, but that came from a 50 pound (or so) hunk that I cut off the side of a 3' diameter log. At the time I thought it was a burl, but it was a huge growth around a 1.5" limb that had apparently got broken off a long time ago. There was a lot of figure and nice grain patterns in that chunk.
