Stabilized spalted maple pot
« on: February 07, 2012, 12:42:45 AM »
Turned this one out tonight.  It is some spalted maple that I picked up a couple years ago, that was much too punky to turn.  I cut a bunch of it up into whistle blanks, but made two pot blanks and sent it all off to Woodlab to be stabilized.  It turned like a dream.  I sanded it to 1200 and buffed it.  It has a black aluminum surface and a glass soundboard.

How does it sound?  I have some spalted maple burl that is going to be too soft but I would love to make some pot calls out of it.

How does it sound?

It sounds good.  It has a really nasty YAWK YAWK YAWK like a box call.  I need to make a smaller/lighter striker, as it seems to like the really lightweight ones.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Awesome work, Aaron! If it sounds as good as it looks you'll have turkeys knocking each other over to be 1st in line!
