Anyone interested in a goose gut moulding tutorial?
« on: January 30, 2012, 10:39:45 AM »
Just figured I'd throw a post up to see if there was any interest in learning how to mold your own goose guts?

This will NOT be one of those "let's copy somebody elses work" type of thing, more of a "so I finally got a great handmade gut made, how do I make a few more" thing.

I'll wait for a few comments and make a decision on how the perception is with the members.

don't think i'll ever reach the point to where i'll need to, but it's always good to have the information.  at the very least, it would make for a very interesting read.  i can see where some guys would not want this info shared, but i am all for it.

Not really interested in molding goose guts but would love to see how it is done.  I would like to mold some of my duck inserts I have made.  I think it would be a great idea.

Defiantly! How hard is it to modify to a Speck Call...or a Snow Call....or is it even possible? I still want to see it either way!

I would love to see this. I am not a waterfowl guy but have been giving this subject a lot of thought for another project I am thinking about doing.

Well, we started working on the tutorial this weekend, but after viewing the footage (or lack of :censored:), I'm going to switch back to the picture and explanation type of tutorial. I'll get things together for another run and try to have it up by the weekend.

Thinking about showing the mold making for my spec gut, but I'll have to get the OK from the originator of the gut before I proceed. The gut I use for spec is a gut for a different style call that I modify for use as spec and cackler.

 More to come!

Awesome, I can hardly wait to see how to do this. I have been wanting to mess with making my own goose guts for a long time and this has given me the push to do so in hopes of molding them once I develop the right gut for my calls

Ok, some things have changed. I'm going to wait a few days until my jig comes in and mold a set of handmades just so I don't upset anyone. I have a set of Cackler/Spec guts I've been working on for the last few months that are built off of an old flute gut, but even with the modifications it's still not something I can call mine. I'm going to use the Webfoot Public jig to get my starting spoit right and modify a set into what I'm using now so the tutorial will be 100% handmade replication.

I'm sorry if I'm dragging my feet on this a bit, I'm just trying hard to show respect for the originators of the guts we use and modify.

 Thanks for your patience!

Completely understand, and thanks for going the extra mile to make sure.  I think what interest us is the "how to" not the "how to make so-n-so's".
A question before while we wait, I have a set of guts that I made from wood, can wood be sucessfully mlded?
...or I can just patiently wait.
