ca finish over oil?
« on: January 18, 2012, 08:24:24 AM »
It's probably been posted here before, but... I like the way an oil finish looks on wood. Can you apply a ca finish over an oil finish? Thanks for your help here everyone!

Thanks for the response! It would seem to me that once you are finished wet sanding, that would be it. You wouldn't need to buff if you were looking for the satin finish. Just a thought.

If I want to wet sand, I usually use Watco Teak oil, and then after I have finished sanding I set the call aside for a few days to let it completely dry.  Then I can either buff it.  Or add more coats of Teak, and then wait for it to cure an buff it, or I can use CA for the finish.  I don't use BLO by itself as a finish, I believe the other oil finishes are better as a final finish.  Teak , Danish, Velvit, Tru-Oil etc., all contain varnishes of some kind that helps to seal the wood.

I rub on some BLO before all my CA finishes.  Works fine for me, and i think it does help with deepening the color.
