KC taught me to use copper pins as it ads a nice contrast to the aluminum band. My first call we done that way and I really liked how it came out.

I use 1/16" brass, copper or aluminum rod that you can buy lengths of at some hardware stores and just about any hobby shop.

I haven't done this in a long time, but years ago I used to used tiny brass screws.   Drill 3 separate holes indexed on the thirds, and then screw them into the wood, and brad down the tips.  Look neat, but a load of work and cost.

Ditto on the waste cut offs from aluminum rivets.  I just grind the ends with a bevel on the wheel and cut them to length then pound them into the aluminum band.  I then mill them down with a flat file on the lathe.  Can't see them.
