Hey guys, I normally make predator calls and squirrel calls but want to expand my horizons. I want to make a tubeless grunt call. The ones I see are very long. I was wondering if guys just pretty much turn a longer barrel to make up for the tube. Any pointers would be appreciated.

That'a exactly the reason I turn mine longer. It's the only way I know how to get that "throatier" sound out of them. Looking forward to seeing your work. :xmas:

Well, here it is. This is my first attempt. The mouthpiece is made from slightly spalted white oak, and the barrel from SpectraPly I got from Curtis. That SpectraPly is the bomb! Anyway, let me know what you think good bad, or indiffernt!!

Good job! I think you definitely got something going with your shape, might be a bit busy by the mouth portion though... I'm gonna try deer calls after Christmas so I'll be in the same boat. What guts did you use? ~Andre

Thanks for the input. Looking back on it, I should've just bypassed the lanyard groove. I used the same guts that Al has here. I just made an order from Al for some more.

That shape will become recognized as yours & will be recieved nicely. Keep the lanyard groove. Bowhunters don't like to move very much & they could possibly drop it to the ground as that big buck comes in to the call.
