3/4 or 5/8 ?
« on: November 10, 2011, 08:32:55 AM »
What size hole do most of you drill in you barrels 3/4 or 5/8 ? What about insert ? I bought some pre drilled blanks, because I don't have my drill press yet and they were 3/4 ID. Thanks G

If your referring to duck calls I do mine at 5/8" and the insert becomes the same size just sanded slightly to give a snug fit.

Duck call barrels are generally a 5/8" bore.  Duck call inserts are usually no larger than 1/4" bore.  If you meant for goose calls, then I'm not sure.  I think some of their barrels are 3/4" bore but I could be wrong.

Some goose calls are 3/4 all the way through.  If I remember correctly Sean Mann calls are a straight bore.  5/8 is common for duck calls.

In general, deer call barrels are 3/4" hole with a length of about 3 1/2" to 3 3/4".

That's what I would work on if I had barrel blanks with this holes drilled in them.

I have made tube calls from 3/4" up to 1". The best thing is to try different sizes and see what you like best there are no set rules to this if it works then stay with it!
