A few acrylic ?s
« on: December 13, 2011, 07:36:58 AM »
I just got a length of 1.5 inch black acrylic and started to turn a stopper for a grunter. How do you get the tool marks out. I started with real course paper 80 grit and it left a brown ridge. Is this too course am i sanding to long? I retooled and switched to a finer grit 120, it didn't leave any brown ridges but it didn't get the tool marks out either. I resharpened my tools and tried again this helped but i still got some chatter marks. Any thoughts. I did find that taking a little off at a time helped some. Any thoughts.
Also i flamed polished it and found that my decor lines didnt get polished any tricks to polishing lines? I didnt try a cord with brasso yet.

You are wet sanding right?  You need to make sure the stuff is really wet.  Don't want any heat buildup.  In my acrylic experience,  120 should be able to get out any tool mark you have, but it won't leave the surface very nice.  Need finer grits for that.  Good luck!
