A Sampling of recent grunt calls
« on: September 17, 2008, 05:49:46 PM »
I got my order from Curtis the other day and have been busy. Here is a quick picture of some of the recent deer grunts I've been busy on. The 3 on the right are from the blanks I cut myself from wood around here, the others are all from the wood I got from Curtis.

Nice looking bunch of calls. You sure did a good job on them.

;D  Curtis DEFINATELY had some good stuff, huh?!

Can you show a closeup of that pink one?  I think I may have a stick of the same stuff I have yet to turn.

Great calls!

Looking good!  What's the colors on the one 2nd from the left?

Brian
You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

The pink one is the color I thnk they called "Chutney". I'll get a close up as soon as one ahngs around long enoough. Seems to be VERY popular, I made 3 grunts from it total. None lasted more than 3 or 4 hours from lathe to customer. Kinda surprised me actually.
The second from the left is the "Blue and Yellow Gunstock". it also seems like it well recieved. I'll be calling Curtis in the morning with another order. I also have plans to try some turkey call pots from it. Right now though, I'm pretty well concentrating on the deer and other calls for fall hunting. I have a show on the 27th to get ready for as well. Fish and Critters here has aske me to come out to the local WMA for the "National Hunting and Fishing Day" event they put on. Promises to be fun.

;)  Better give Curtis a call ASAP.  I know he's starting to run out of colors.

I know because one of my friends called him last week with a couple colors and told him, "Tell me how much you have left, and how much you want for it all."   ;D

He'll be rolling out with his own product here very soon, I know that.  I'm looking forward to trying it out.  Its laminated maple.

I also found out tonight that he'll deal in some certain exotic woods too if folks are interested.

I've got him checking prices for me for bloodwood, canarywood  and another kind or two I can't remember at the moment.

He has alot of plans that, when he gets up and running with them, are going to be great for folks like us who make calls.

WOW, if I ever get power back to the shop I'll have to jump on my Curtis wood. I'm sure hoping that 3rd call from the left is his Cocobolo!!! Great looking calls Bill !
