Cedar strip canoe. Time for some varnish!
« on: November 06, 2011, 10:36:13 AM »
Got the decks, gunwales, and yoke across the middle on. On the decks and yoke I went with cherry, walnut and ash. On the gunwales I used cherry, and ash.

Sanded the epoxy on the inside, ready to seal all bare wood.

Decks, gunwales, and yoke sealed.

First coat of varnish.

Now to flip it back over and sand the outside and varnish it, then reinstall the seats and all the finishing touches.
Thanks for looking. Waylon.

Are you done now then?  Or is there more to do?  I can't imagine how proud you must be of that wonderful work!

Parker, almost done. I have to mount the seats in the morning and it will be done. I think I will try and get it wet as soon as they are in!!

Brad, that's an awesome looking canoe. This was my first attempt at one. On my next I plan on fancying it up like you have yours. I'm thinking of starting one probably next month. It will be a small solo person canoe about 11-12 ft long. My nephew is graduating this year and that's what we are going to give him for graduation. So I better get started on it to get it finished by the end of May.

Awesome. They are alot of fun to build. I have plans from newfound boat works for a little 12 foot solo. I doubt it will get started this year though. Here is a 20 foot flat bottom river boat i started last fall. I havent done anything to it this winter.
