I've been making custom fishing plugs and lures since 1956.  Mostly larger ones for big game fish, top water and shallow divers.

I've carved a few by hand and painted them.  Catching bass on them is sure cool.

Oh, and my wife and I tie bluegill and crappie jigs too.     That's a lot of fun too!

Im not a fisherman....... wife says I have too many hobbies already. But Id sure like to see some of your lures. If they are anything like your calls we may need to start another section on the forum.  :2up:

I used to make wood lures, but it has been years.  I still tie a few crappie and bass jigs when I feel like fishing.

Thanks.  Top waters are made from red cedar, hollow w/ BB's for rattles, shallow divers are made from butternut, some are also hollow with rattles.  I use map tacks and aluminum washers for eyes, screw washers from McFeeleys, hooks, eyes, skirts from Cabelas, and make lips and props by hand out of aluminum flat stock.  They are all given a sealer coat, three undercoats and then painted using spray cans over a vinyl mess screen.  I then hand sign each one.
