One more nutty call!!!
« on: October 11, 2011, 05:10:19 PM »
I have made about 20 squirrel calls this month and though I would have a little fun with one.  I have seen some pictures on here of squirrel calls made to look like an acorn but I don't think I have seen one exactly like this.  If I am copying anyone please let me know as I think its an original.

It is made out of one piece of osage with the top being flamed.

What size hole do you drill in those calls John?

it is a 1/2" hole drilled straight thru with the JC reed and 1/2" rubber bushing.  Very each calls to make.

I like it John. Im a fan of any kind of call made from hedge.

There is another call maker (On a different forum) that uses this shape. He likes to use different wood types for the shell and the nut.

I've been doing mine this way for years, but have no problem with you making your calls that way.  Alscalls does his that way.  Reason I know is that he contacted me years back apologizing after finding out he was duplicating my style. Told him the same.  Make them to your hearts content.  It's only a piece of wood.

Sweet Dave. And that is sure the right attitude. Like you say, it's only a piece of wood, no reason loosing friends over it.

Good for you Dave!! Thats what makes us better as a group. Sharing of ideas and even designs sometimes. Its hard to come up with something that hasnt been done before. People have been making calls for decades and we are all copying someone elses idea at some point. Thats my opinion anyway.
