Looking forward to hearing which ideas worked on the antlers and the condition of the antlers before you start. Should make for an interesting post when you get it all done.

I agree, be sure to take some before and after pictures of each process that you try. This could be very interesting and helpful.

Try buffing it first, unless it is real old and really sun bleached sometimes it will buff out.  These 2 pieces of axis were awful but they buffed out to look like ivory.

I'll make it as helpfull as I can. The test antler is very white and bleached out. I love the look of Marvins after buffing. Did you use Tripoli or something a bit more agressive ?

All I used was the Beall set up, tripoli, white diamond and then the carnauba.

OK, here is what I found out in a simple test.
First pic is the antler before any testing.
Second pic is the antler after testing:
Left to right
Quck dip in Cherry wood stain, 3 hour soak in cherry wood stain, last two are long soak in strong tea misture. Sorry, meant to have a short and a long soak, but got sidetracked and both sat for most of the day. I added the anterl after I turned off the heat but while the tea was still simmering.
I'm very surprzed by the lack of color the stain imparted, even after several hours. Likewise I'm pretty impressed with the effect of the tea and think it might look even better after buffing.  All the pieces look better than they did to start with, but I still need to do the buffing step on all of them to see what the final results look like.
There you have it...

Interesting, there isn't much difference between the short and long dip in cherry stain.

Very cool indeed. Hmmmmmm, now you got me thinking. Don't worry though, after 15 1/2 hours of driving through traffic of evacuees heading home after the storm, I'm not going to remember it tomorrow....LOL
