Desert Ironwood
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:26:17 AM »
This is a piece of desert Ironwood.  Talk about a hard piece of wood.  The call turned out ok.  This wasn't the original shape of the call.  As I was turning there was some checking in the wood.  I had a large piece fly off during shaping.  So I had to change my plan on this one for the shape.  There is still a little bit of the checking left.  But it adds character. CA finish.

Great looking call.  Desert ironwood is my favorite wood, no question.  Checking is pretty hard to avoid....Just gotta CA them as you uncover them or before you turn the blank.  The stuff sure stinks when you turn it too.  It is super expensive or I'd turn more of it!
