Two New Tutorials
« on: February 18, 2008, 09:04:55 PM »
I've posted a couple new tutorials in he Tutorial Section of the mail web site.

The first one is on an alternative to using castration bands.

The second is on filling grain and finishing calls with CA glue.

Feel free to check them out and let me know what you think.

Thanks

Al @ THO

That is a pretty slick idea on the band.  Sure does make it look better.

AH!  Thank you!  I'm going to go check that out!

(I hope it tells me the brand and type you prefer, cause otherwise I'll be bending your ear about that.   ;D )

The tutorial on the new banding technique is very innovative.  It does really dress up a fancy call nicely.

The CA tutorial was something that I was hoping that you would do soon.  And it looks like I got my wish!!  I've been trying the CA technique lately, but it wasn't coming out like I was hoping.  I've tried just doing CA, and the CA and BLO style.  Both have caused me some troubles.  The CA that I've been using is the stuff from HUT, and the paper towels have been the Viva brand.  I'm thinking that there is something in the Viva towels that acts like an accelerant to this particular brand of CA.  I can't get my CA to apply smoothly to the blank.  It goes on like rubber cement ??? and makes those bugger looking like clumps.  It may be something with my technique, maybe not.  But from this tutorial, I've got some new ideas to try on my current process.  Thanks a bunch Al for sharing.

Another 2 fabulous tutorials from the master.

You won't get money rich in this hobby.  The richness is in the culture, the craft, the friends you meet along the way, and being able to call in a wary game animal with a call that you made with your own hands.

Al, I just now had the opportunity to get over and review the tutorials. Great stuff. Again you came through. Nice job on both of them.

BigB, back in my pen turning days and doing the CA finish, the rage over on the pen site was you could only use the Bounty brand paper towels.  Really dont know if there is anything to that theory or not.  I can't do the BLO/CA finish any more, I got to where as soon as the glue met the wood and the fumes started coming off I would get so lite headed it could have been a bad deal.  This was even with a respirator on.

So be careful using it.

Just what I've been waiting for...the CA finish tutorial was great.  I've got a good feeling about that barrel that you were using in the tutorial!!
