Trying something new
« on: May 17, 2011, 01:44:57 PM »
A friend of mine that used to make knifes past away about 6 years ago, his daughter gave me the last knife blade he cut out before he passed. She asked me to finish the knife and keep it to remember him by. Well i have been looking at it setting on my work bench for a couple years now and last weekend i decided to dive in. I think the final results are nice for my first Knife. May have a new hobby now?? Sorry it is a redwood burl handle with a CA finish.

Nice job! That is a beautiful blade your friend made and you sure did it proud with that fine piece of wood. I love the pins too, they really set it off.

Real nice!  That would be my new hunting knife.  I'd remember my buddy every time I got it out!

I sure agree there Parker. A buddy gave me a rifle as he was going into a nursing home because he said he was never coming out again. He was right too. Every time I shoot that rifle, which is often in the summer time, Mike is on my mine. That is what is going to happen to you Robert. Everytime you pick that thing up and admire it, you are going to remember your buddy.

MAN thats a great looking knife!! The cut on the blade along with the burl and the pins....... it all just goes together beautifully!!!

Ive got my first one on my bench and I havent gotten the courage to start on it yet. I got some of those cool pins to use on it also. Was thinking it would make a great fathers day gift for my Dad. Guess its time to man up and try it out.

Amazing, your friend would be proud.
If you do start making knives, your gonna have to add an extra room to your shop cause I'll never leave. I've always wanted to learn to make knives.
If I can see it I can hit it, If I can hit it I can kill it.

Robert-- FWIW I had a very good Friend give me a nice knife. It was a Winchester knife with a gray laminate handle & was very comfortable in my hand. He just gave it to me & said "I want to see some blood on it so don't take it home & put it away & look at it."  Well I did just as he asked. For a couple years then I lost it.    Get as much use out of it as you can & keep track of it. That one could end up anywhere outside of your house. And you'll never be able to take your Friend hunting with you again. Take care.
RIP Russ,Blaine,& Darrell!!
