My Latest To Show
« on: February 18, 2008, 11:33:52 AM »
I have been busy here lately, seems like all my spare daylight time is spent using calls instead of building them  :o .  The problem is they work so good.  Have called in 20 coyotes this winter and 12 of them have came to one of my handmade calls.

Anyway for about the past 3 weeks I have been turning and here is what I came up with.

Yup, those are looking good. Real good.  Matter of fact, they make me feel like going hunting.   Yeah - I think I will check you all later.

Good looking calls, I have the same problem with making calls versus using them in the winter.

Just curious, with that design, do you do a straight through bore, or do you taper it to mach the outside?
Thanks, Scott

Ok, how about a gift box to put your calls in?   LOL, someone on another site said something about that to me and it just so happened I used to make boxes.

iahntr, as you can see from the pics with the boxes I taper the inside to about 1 1/2 on the longer calls and about 1 1/8 on the short ones.

Dang - those are sharp too.   you guys are killing me here LOL.  I need to get to work.

I really like the laminated calls you make.  They are very pretty and you can tell just by looking at them that they would be very functional in the field.

Those are wonderful boxes. I really like them. I would love to make stuff like that, but just don't have the room to set up equipment. Yea, I know it can all be done by hand, but I'm not really into that. Nice work.

Actually the laminated calls came from wood that I had used in making the boxes.  I have a really hard time throwing wood away.  When my pile got big enough and needed to be cleaned up, I decided to just start gluing them together.  I then got to looking at all this and thought man if I cut at an angle it would make some neat turnings.  If I were to get a little more creative on the calls, they could look really wild.

I had made the boxes as gifts 6 or 7 years ago.  They are a real pain getting the fingers to fit together tight.  I still have a box full of precut parts that have the fingers done on the ends.  I guess I will have to get them out and start building boxes again.
