I finally got some production time in this weekend. Elk calls are a great way to use up some odds and ends around the shop. :) :) ;D

Those are laminated calls, not inlayed. Heck ya, I'll teach you all how to do it. I'm short for time right now but here are a couple of tips to help you out.
First of all there is only ONE glue to use. Elmers "PROBOND" Interior/Exterior wood glue. I've done my own independent tests and it flat out beats the rest.
Don't clamp them so tight you squeeze the glue out.
Drill them on the lathe after the glue dries for 24 hours and turn them not long after, the glue bonds the best and there is little wood movement to cause you problems when turning.
Cletic knots: Use laminate strips the exact width of the saw blade on your chop saw. If you have a 1/8 inch blade then you have to use 1/8 laminate spacers. All a Cletic knot is, is two "X" laminates glued up on two sides of the blank. Be very careful when gluing and clamping to get where they cross to line up. Some day I will do a photo essay for you all. Feel free to ask questions and I'll help you out. It's really not all that hard if you have good clamps and technique....... ;D

Yea, but you don't have a picture of a celtic knot posted here. :( I think they are really cool. I have tried a few and, while they came out interesting, they were quite a ways from being right.

Braz, I will try to produce one in the next couple of weeks and photograph the whole process. ;D I'm so dog-gone busy at work right now I can't hardly see straight. :P The Osage call is 1/2 of a celtic knot.

Great looking calls. Also, you took the words outta my mouth.... use inlay strips the thinkness of your blade, that's the only way to get the grain to match/line up correctly.
I have a question, where is the best place to buy gut kits for the elk calls? hut???
