Title: made an elk antler howler
Post by: Jawbreaker on November 30, 2009, 10:53:10 PM
wanted to try making a howler from an elk antler so Saturday I hung out in the garage and made this one up. It sounds pretty good but isn't as loud as the cow horn howlers I make.

 Thanks for looking,   Ron

My guess is it isn't as loud as it is much more solid. The cow horn is much thinner material and will vibrate more. I'm not an electronics guy, so someone can chime in and fully describe what I'm talking about.

i was thinking the same thing. The antler is alot more dense than the cow horn.

The density is definitely the difference! I have made turkey yelpers out of both and the cow horn resinates sound much better!
