Title: A short tone channel jig tutorial
Post by: Bob from Eames Custom Calls on August 24, 2009, 11:00:28 PM
I've had a few questions from some of the new faces around here about how to get the end of the tonechannel in the same spot on the jig every time. There's a number of different ways to do this, but I figured I'd show my way real quick to give an example.

These are the pieces I use to set my tonechannel depth in the jig. I reference off of the end of the drilled hole, which gives me the same depth every time.

 The pieces are:

My toneboard jig (a modified version of Wade's public jig)
A depth gauge from a harbor frieght precision measuring kit
 A 2 1/2" length of 1 1/2" PCV pipe

I have the depth guage set so that when the guage bottoms out in the tone channel hole, and the PVC pipe stops it, the end of the tonechannel is at the perfect spot on the tone board. Because the insert is referenced off of the end of the tonechannel, no matter how long my insert is, the tonechannel always ends in the correct spot.

Here's a link to the measuring kit:

Hope this helps some of you out!

 Best of luck!

For those that do not have the depth gauge, I would recommend getting 1 or may 2 or 3 and using them.  They can save a lot headaches.
