Title: Digitizing a Game Call
Post by: Gary Campbell on April 09, 2019, 08:45:59 AM
For those that were thinking CNC, but don't want to invest in the learning curve, we have developed a method to digitally scan existing profiles on SideWinder CNC Lathes.  Here is a video showing an "over the counter" lathe being digitally scanned prior to be "cleaned up" in a CAD/CAM program.

Here is part 2, or actually a start to finish of the process. I still have some final adjustments to the tool lengths, feed rates and some of the macro actions to make, but for the most part the project is viable. AND FUN!!! Looks like a production cycle with proper length blanks would yield one call in under 3 minutes, ~20 per hour.

To answer a number of emails regarding this machine and machining time per call, I have included that in this video along with showing some of the features:

James...
Thanks, it's been a fun project. I just wish I knew more about turning in general and calls in particular.
