Who on here uses a Shop Fox W1836 mini lathe and what do you think about it?

I have owned two SHop Fox lathes.  a mini and a midi (cant remember the model numbers).  Neither of them lasted past the two year mark.  Control box went out on one, and the bearings on the other.

At the time, and for the money, they were good beginners lathes.  I learned a lot and made a lot of nice calls on them.  In my opinion, or should I say in my experience, they just are not built to last.

I upgraded to a Delta about 6 years ago and haven't regretted a penny of the expense.

Which delta would you recommend to start out and are the parts easy to find for the spindle head. All I need is something to hold my call

Cason, the lathe you choose will have a designated taper on the head and tail stock.
 It’ll be a Morse taper. M1,M2 and M3 are different tapers. M2 is the most common and you’ll  Be glad to have a lathe with M2. And another important spec is the thread size on head stock.
 I have recently replaced an old lathe probably 75 or older with a variable speed jet lathe. What a great lathe, I’m so pleased with this lathe. ( Jet VS1221).

With the M2 head will I be able to but a random tool holder

Like a mandrel to hold the duck call while I shape it.

What you need is a collet chuck to hold the expanding mandrel. Most of us use the collet chuck sold by Penn State Industries. Mandrels are available from Web Foot Custom Calls.

The recommendation to buy the Jet 1221 is a good one.  I bought 3 mini lathes before I bought my Jet 1221. I would have saved money if I had just gone with the Jet to begin with.

The most common lathe spindle thread is 1X8. The PSI collet chuck comes that way standard.

Check Amazon for the PSI collet chuck, says there are 10 in stock.
