Metal reeds are used in Reelfoot style calls and they vary from 0.005 to 0.010 inches depending on the blowing style of the hunter. I make most of my reeds from either 0.005 stainless shim stock or 0.008 bronze shim. The bronze shim stock is available at "Hobby Lobby" in small sheets.

In addition to Fred's post you do not say what type call you are making. Std. Ar. style call would use the mylar reed with a curved tone board where the Reelfoot style would use the metal reed with a flat tone board.

Hasn't replied since the original post...and Ill bet he doesn't know meaning he has never attempted to simply try nor has he read anything anywhere to attempt to learn. The material is very cheap to do ones own tests.

Hahahahaha it is people like you not willing to earn anything that keeps people away. If you can't afford a $5 sheet of material or consider it a waste of your funds then you don't need to be in this gig. It's gonna cost alot more than that. Just love those that worry about a dollar....that thought process continues and you cut corners on quality material but expect people to pay their hard earned money for your product.. Failing buisness plan right there.
