Title: Ground Your Dust Collection Systems!
Post by: LagrueCustomCalls on August 07, 2017, 10:41:35 PM
Big Safety Heads-Up!

This weekend, I had a bit of a wake up call from my dust collection system. I installed the system almost a year ago to replace the shop vac system I had run for a long time previous. New system is awesome. I'm running really short runs, all expandable hose. As short as the runs are, I did not think I needed to worry about static build up and dust.

I WAS WRONG!

This weekend, I turned 7 calls, and while doing some finish sanding on one, I saw a flash in one of the tubes and heard a 'POP'. Could not believe it, but it was all of 2 feet from my face. I shut everything down and pulled the safety key out of the dust collector.

I've since grounded the whole setup correctly (hoses, collector, etc) and believe I've eliminated the problem.

If you have a dust/chip collector - Ground it!

There are several good threads here on the forums about properly grounding your dust collection systems. Some have good links to other sources and forums as well.
