Post by: Strut Zone Game Calls on July 01, 2017, 11:08:35 AM
Where's best place to get pot call surfaces and sound boards?  Crystal, glass aluminum and slate.. didn't know if there was others besides Brookside, grassy creek and Shipley?  Thanks

I usually buy slate and glass from Chad Hutcheson as do several others on this forum. Email him at stumpyglassman@yahoo.com for availability and pricing of what you are interested in.

Those four just about cover it for me. Sometimes you will come across a deal in Facebook groups.

I order from who ever has the extra little stuff I am looking for.

I've bought slate from 2 different suppliers... do y'all notice much difference from one to the other in sound?  I'm still learning haven't turned but around 25 pots

My understanding, almost all the slate we are being supplied comes from just two different mines.  My suggestion is to watch your thickness closely. Set up a orbital sanding station to see that all the pots you turn get the same thickness of slate. It does matter. And thinner tends to be better (though go too thin, and you make a fragile call). Also, keep your edge gap in mind on your call. Your surface with crack with temperature changes if you are snapping your surface in place.
