Title: Finishing strikers
Post by: Rob_McFadden on April 22, 2017, 08:35:58 AM
Hey guys, I use teak oil to finish my pots and am starting to turn strikers and was wondering if that is a good finish for strikers as well? Also should I dip Them or can I just rub it in?

I would just rub it on. Also put a piece of tape on the tip and maybe a half inch up, you don't want any finish there

I finish my strikers with Tru Oil except the tip. You want the tip unfinished. Just hold it by the tip and rub the finish on the remainder of the striker. Hang, tip up, to dry.

I use painters tape and wrap about an inch up and fold excess together on the top. I than run a thin wire through the tip of the tape so I can hang it. I use a base of teak oil and finish with a spar urethane. The tape peels off when it's dry and the tip has no residue

That's a great idea with the tape and wire Abe. Thank you for sharing that.
