Anybody use or ever try using a 4 to 41/2 hole saw on a drill press to cut blanks out even through 1 to 2 in hardwood
Sure would be easy to just drill already round blanks but im not sure if a hole saw would go through very good or stay sharp long at all. Thanks

I used to do it when making my two sided calls. I can be a pain on harder blanks. It's just easier with a saw.

Had a friend that started that way, and ended up agreeing with above. Easier to get a bandsaw and cut them. Cheaper too. Hole saws wear out pretty quickly.

i do it all the time, saves time....

I have done that for all my pot calls use 41/4 " just have to run it real slow no more than 800 rpm

Thanks for the info guys, think I'm going to get a small band saw soon.

Ive tried the holesaw method and found it a royal PITA. now I just mount the 4x4 square blank on the lathe and round it off with the bowl gouge...
this guys video is pretty informative. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6eph8m9wz8

hole saw on a drill press
HAS MY VOTE , I GET ABOUT A 1/16" OF A INCH OVER THE
EDGE OF THE BOARDS EDGE SO THE SAW DUST CAN ESCAPE.....

I just round them on the lathe. Mike
