I understand about using goop and only goop for glueing soundboards. So I use goop. Never had a failure.
However I remember a thread years ago that said other types of adhesive would make the call really sing, but since they were brittle , using them would ensure adhesion failure.
Does anybody remember this thread or have any experiance with some other adhesive like jb weld?

I'm just a newbie but why would you want to use them if they will fail?

It might be nice if you could have the best of both.... Just a thought. I just remember some good comments in that post and I can't find it.

Try this. I have never had a glue joint fail!

Your correct it will make some calls like a Mustang with nitrous but like a race car it will break down on ya sometime on the race track. You can get the sound with goop you need if the pots right and the wood blanks right.. I have used Devcon for soundboards before and I have replaced calls because of Devon soundboards..

Yes, it is not brittle after it dries. I used it for years to glue on knife handles. In another life I belonged to the Knifemakers Guild for 23 years. Over 400 full tang custom knives (slab handles) and no failures of the glue joints that I am aware of.

Thanks Lyle and Fred! Now I got to do some experimenting.
Would y'all think that failures resulted because of temperature changes or mishandling(dropping)
calls?

I would guess that the soundboard material was not clean. You want everything squeaky clean for a proper glue join especially with epoxy. I use a lot of glass for soundboards and I clean it good with Windex just before I glue it down. after it is clean I only handle the material by the edges.
