Title: cocobolo question
Post by: Jack at Mud Creek Game Calls on May 13, 2015, 06:05:08 PM
I have a customer who wants a coco grunter w/a celtic knot in it. I was going to use maple for the knot and wipe the coco really good with acetone when gluing. Do you all think the glue up would hold on coco? I've always had good luck on non oily woods but am somewhat concerned about this one. Thanks for any thoughts.

Jack I made several duck calls using thin pieces of Cocobolo glued to other woods without a tenon and they never flew apart. Couple things I have learned over the years is don't over clamp and clean well with acetone. I used Titebond II for those glue ups. I did a Oak Burl and cocobolo strips in between the oak for a pot call and it was fine but be very careful the coco may/will run dark color into your light wood from your finish.
