It's not quite finished yet but i had to share my progress with you guys. I'm still working on getting my checkering to a point. This is my first try at a raised panel. I carved the panels out with a pocket knife and smoothed everything out with a couple of detail sanders I made from Corian. I know i need to work on straighter lines. Any and all criticism will be welcomed. The wood is cherry.

Nice Job.....way to get in there and give it a whirl. Nice job on your St. Charles calls too, got to see them this weekend.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys! Mark, I bet you could do it. You make some beautiful calls man.
Ron, congrats on your big win. I'd love to have been there to see it in person. Hopefully next year.

great job. I'm still trying to figure the raised panel thing. Brians contest calls got me wanting to do them bad. Now these, jealousy is a green eyed monster. Eats you up till you can do it too.lol

R. Finchum, once you get your head wrapped around laying everything out it's not that bad. I spent a lot of time in areas that show little results but I think I picked up on a few tricks I can apply next time around.
Thanks BigB!

That's awesome right there! I love seeing folks trying new techniques. Makes me want give it a try.

Great work, it has been a long time since I saw someone going out of the norm and doing the square type checkering. One of my favorite ways to checker a call and the mix you did was the icing on the "call"

Well thanks guys, all you guys on this forum inspire me to try this stuff.
Marvin, I can see why you don't see much of the square checkering. It seems to take a lot of effort to get the diamonds (squares) to point. I've still got a few more hours of filing to go I think.

Well done can't wait to see it finished!
