Title: Second Yote of the year.
Post by: David @ Mad Duck Game Calls on March 28, 2015, 09:35:17 PM
There is no pics of this ine, he just looked like all thebother coyotes......

We got to our spot about 6:45. We walked out to our spot and got all set up. I stood up to pee and my dad started calling. I was thinking in my head "Dad, why are you calling already, I'm not even set dow. A coyote could run in aND see me standing" I get done peeing, walk towards my chair and my dad says "Coyote! Right there!" At this point I am still standing, no face mask, and I don't even see the thing. I get down on my knee (like I was proposing. Lol) and looked. I finally saw him, he was on the EXACT Sam path as my first coyote was. Actually, he was standing right where I had shot the other yote. My dad had his 12 guge and I had my .30-30.
The plan was to let him get close so he could shoot it, but if he wouldn't come in range I would shoot. Well, he cam in range!
He kept walking towards us, dissappeared through the little drop and started up our side. I finally found him again, he was at 50 yards. My dad says 40 yards is max he is going to shoot. Got my sights on him, and waited...... And waited.... nothing. Just stood there looking..... FINALLY he walks towards us more, at this point he is at 40 yards. I waited for my dad to shoot..... About 30 seconds later I thought to myself "If he doesn't shoot I am going to" BOOM! He shot, I didn't know if he had hit him or not so I fired a round at him. I  couldn't see him at this point, but my dad said he was still there. We stood up but he was gone by then. We set back down and waited. (Just to see if another ine was going to run through) 10 minutes later we got up to looks for him. Made it about 70 yards and died. I think my dad counted 5 holes in him......

Had alot of fun! Can't wait to go again..... Oh ya, we found our turkey spot too. Every time I howled  three or four turkeys would gobble back. At one point I think I had the one quadruple gobbling.... Nver heard anything so cool. C'mon turkey season!!

Thanks Dave. I am HOOKED. We need another spot though, don't want to kill all the ones in that area!

David,  the spot may slow down.  But there will be coyotes there to replace the ones you take out.
My friend once shot 19 red fox on his 20 acre property over the course of a year.  Soon as he would take out a pair, another set would move in.  The coyotes are the same way.  They know what is going on, and when a territory is vacant.

Just not my morning I suppose.  It happens.  There will always be more empty setups than successful ones.
