I haven't been posting much on the forum, but for Christmas I got a laptop, so I will probably be much more active on the forum now. So here are some pictures of my calls, and a few videos for sound files.
Here is Black Walnut call with a burnt edge.

Here is a Curly Maple call. I was given a pretty large slab of curly maple in a trade with a personal friend.
I am calling this style of call "Fat Momma"

Here is a Padauk call.

This is my newest "break through" It's a Black Walnut "Fat Boy" style double reed. The special thing behind this call is the town board. I haven't seen anybody do this yet, so I am not going to share just what it is until I find out who else has tried it. Just going to say, I love this call, and DAMN is it loud!

Here is a clear acrylic Fat Momma style single reed.
Anybody know how to smooth up the insides of clear acrylics? I know I need a new sharper drill bit, but anything else?

This is a Fluted style acrylic call. I ordered the blank from craft supplies usa. Love the way this one turned out.

Getting clear acrylic to look good....place two feet side by side for an extended length of time and sand through the grits.
On the calling....sorry boss....not so good. I would suggest Carlson Calling A-Z two cd set. Jim has excellant instructional information.

So do the calls sound nice? or can you tell? Another question... If that isn't very good calling, then I must be getting stupid ducks... Kuz calling like that works for me. It might be the sound quality of the recording, or stupid ducks, I don't know...If I suck it works hahaha!

I have to agree with the Stump. The Calling is not good and it's really hard to tell if the calls are good or not. I can tell from the video you are not using proper technique for putting air through the call. You don't have to be a stage caller to kill ducks so that's a moot point. Your taking it a little personal it appears. Wrong position to take we are only trying to steer you in the right direction. Can you yourself tell the difference between you and a more seasoned caller when you play it back?

Well of course I am going to take it a little personal, but i'm not letting it break me down. I need to work on my calling, I got it. Does anybody have any good suggestions as where to I should look?

I believe Stump did try to lead you in the right direction did you miss his suggestion? And you didn't listen to me either or bother to answer my question as to can you hear the difference between your calling and a more seasoned caller. So the air has to come from your diaphragm you have to learn to control the call and the air you put through it. You are not doing this the call is controlling you. Your cadence needs to be smooth and the quacks need to be finished and they don't finish they just end.

yes i saw his suggestion and i looked into it. It took me awhile to find but once i did find it it looks good. Where I found it, you have to purchase it, so I just haven't done that yet. I was wondering if anybody ELSE had any suggestions, as I am open to more than one option. And i get it, I apparently suck at calling, I'm working on it. I get where the air has to come from and I do pull it up and "pressurize" the reed as I have seen suggested a lot. or at least i think I do. I need to get the video then I'll look into it. I'm a little bussy with wrestling season however, so I haven't got much done.

The video Stump suggested was just that... a suggestion. You do not have to study a video to become a good duck caller. It does help, however. I am a fairly good duck caller; never studied a video. I studied my Grandfather and Dad and everybody else I ever hunted with. Now, if you are killing ducks with your style of calling and sound, stay with it. Who cares how you kill them. If I could kill a bunch of ducks by blowing a car horn, I'd do it regardless of what anyone says. The fact that you are actively searching to learn to be a better caller tells me that you do realize you have plenty of room for improvement.
Bottom line; if you are successful in the blind with your sound and technique, disregard the help/advice you were freely given here by myself, Stump, and Larry. But the next time you start a thread and ask for opinions & advice, don't be quite as offended with the feedback you originally ask for.

I agree with Jeff. If you ask for opinions, that's what you'll get. Nobody was disrespectful, they just gave you what you asked for. Sugar coating or lying will not make you a better call maker. And for the record, the cd's that Stump recommended are the best tutorials I've seen.

Another good calling tutorial is RNT's 3 CD set. It'll set you back about $35 I believe. Very good way to start with the fundamentals, then build your skills up from there. If nothing else, for comparison's sake, do a youtube search for meat calling competition routines. Yes those are competition but they're realistic calling that accomplished callers would utilize in a blind.

True Aaron....that is why I posted this year's live duck and goose videos in the competition section. So folks could understand and hear quality calling. Competing calling can make you a better call operator

I started my kids with an old Buck Gardner freebie CD we got with a cheap poly call years before I started building calls. You're not going to set the world on fire with it, but it gives you some good starting points that let a guy build a solid foundation for calling.
I have both the Carlson and RnT sets and both are excellent. I think the Buck Gardner cd is availible track by track for free from thier website as well.
