Title: Spray paint
Post by: B FERGUSON on October 18, 2014, 09:31:08 AM
Is there a good wood exterior spray paint that will not raise the grain and you can put a clear coat over it to make it last?
Thanks for any help

I have no clue, but can I ask as to why you want to paint instead of a clear finish to show off the wood?  If you want color or different look, stain and/or dye will provide it.

I've varnished over milk paint for furniture, cabinets and such, but never on a call. I used the premixed stuff from Woodcraft - brushed not sprayed though.

I've painted a lot of calls in my day.  Above example is a Maple call that I covered completely.  I used an airbrush with "Createx" brand Acrylic paint.  It is water based, and it's permanent when dried.  I use a hair dry to permanantly set the paint.  Then top coat it a few times with Krylon Crystal Clear.
