Title: CNC Inserts
Post by: Steel Rain Calls on September 10, 2014, 08:14:45 AM
I was wondering what would be a good CNC to use to do inserts? I am really just curious more than anything about it since I think it awesome to watch it cut the toneboard out in front of me.

Steel Rain Calls...
If you could show me an example of what the part is, I should be able to let you know what would be required to machine them.  Pardon my ignorance.

Not Steel Rain, but there are some pics of a duck call insert on this thread.

Youre wanting a mill to cut sound boards.

But from there... its like picking a mode of transportation... you need to go a mile....  bike, motor cycle, car, pickup, truck, tractor, unicycle, walk, run, Ferrari, cavalier...  you gotta choose what fits the need and situation...

Accuracy requirements, budget, space, and all sorts of other factors come into play.  But I would imagine most people in the hobby side of things would be looking at a hobby machine, like a Taig, Sherline, etc...

But remember, you not only have to have the machine, youll need cutters, tool holders, a means to convert a tone board into Gcode and a way to check things....  sometimes the support equipment is more than the machine.  There is a forum called CNC Zone that covers a lot of the hobby CNC stuff (as well as a lot of other stuff).  Might be worth a look.

Yeah, me too... thats what lead to my demise :D  hehehehe...   I spent a lot of time looking at and into the hobby machines, but just didnt like some of the things that are inherent to the little machines... then I stumbled into an Okuma Turning center...  and its been down hill since then...  like a snow ball headed for   :devil2:

Thank  :innocent: Im not one that has to have new stuff... if it werent for old used machines (newest one is a '95) Id either have nothing or be in the poor house and receiving therapy.  Currently, I just need therapy... but not attending.  (http://www.webfootcustomcalls.com/lmao.gif)
