Title: RESIN POLYESTER-HYBRID Product # USC58220
Post by: Bob Wallace on January 22, 2014, 10:36:35 AM
Hi Guys,

Has anyone tried this resin for casting blanks ? Its sold at Acklands Granger and made by USC. At $38 a gallon it seems to good to be true.

Thanks
Bob

That is the type of resin used for autobody work. If you go by fiberglass resin, it is the same. That stuff is an amber color, so it would be difficult to pigment it.

thank you Pintail, I am brand new to casting and making calls. I got your public jig for Xmas and was looking for a cheap way to practice and gain experience with both casting and turning out some calls. I'm not to worried about colors at this point, just wanted to make sure this resin would give me a strong enough blank to work with and hopefully make some usable if not pretty calls.

Honestly I am not sure how it would be. I know that stuff, when I have used it for fiberlass work is VERY hard. I STILL have some on my garage floor that dripped there like 8 years ago, lol. Not saying it wouldn't work, just not sure how well it would or wouldn't work.
