Title: Request for Bull Elk calls
Post by: Roger Smith on January 21, 2014, 07:48:20 PM
I have been requested to make a couple of bull elk calls.  I only see cow elk parts listed here.  Any suggestions on where to order?

A bull elk call would be a bugle. I'm not sure I have ever seen one that didn't incorporate a rubber/plastic tube and/ or a cut wiffle ball bat and latex reed. I have considered making the connecting piece between the bat and rubber/plastic tube out of wood for a nice accent. Other than that, not sure what you could do.

Thanks for the info.  You can tell that I know nothing (definition of nothing is a zero with the rim knock off) about call making.  I will have to pass on these.

I can help you out. I have parts for Elk bugles I would be happy to sell you some as I have plenty of them. I have tone boards and the exhaust tubes you have to turn the barrel and then tune the call. It is a reeded type call.
PM me if you would like some.

Larry- you've peaked my intrest. Would like to see what you have for bugle parts. Is it an open reed? Very curious.

Tone board, reed, wedge, closed reed. Little touchy to set but they work.

Thanks all for the help.

Larry, thanks for your help.  I have completed the two calls and will deliver them tomorrow.

One id Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) with a lot of spalt in the sap wood.  The other is some other wood from Brazil.
