If you'd like to receive and use the 2012 traveling turkey call, post here. Please post your location as well as when you'll be hunting (season dates, anticipated hunting dates) and we'll come up with an order that'll get it to the most people.
If you sign up, you agree to send it to the next guy on the list without delay after you hunt with it, and agree that you will use priority mail or a similarly expeditious means of getting it there. No parcel post!!!
Depending on the number of participants, we may do a couple different traveling calls to get them to the most folks.
EDIT[/b]
HERE'S THE ORDER...Tried to get it in a somewhat geographic order with the guys with the earliest seasons getting the call first. Just makes sense for Gouldman to get it first since he's making it.
Gouldman, april 9-25
Sharpshooter, march 17-april 29
JCZ, april 14-may 12
JWTcustomcalls, april 19-25 (please note the short window he has to use it)
culrich6, april 28-may 31
Aprilheadhunter, april 16-may 20
JTCcalls, may 2-20
KFB Game Calls, may 3-17
TheKCtermite, april 11-may 31
Please PM the guy in line before you and after you so they have your address and contact information.
AT A MINIMUM, use priority mail. Absolutely no parcel post please guys. Overnight shipping may be warranted but I doubt it will be necessary in most cases. I also really suggest that people use delivery confirmation service so the package can be tracked.
Ron will get the call back at the end of the season with everyone's signatures on it.

Sign me up!! The season here in Arkansas is shorter than usual this year. It opens 14th of April and runs to the 29th. I'll only get to hunt 19th-25th due to work. We have a youth hunt too, it's the 7th & 8th. Be real nice to use the call to call a bird in for one of the youngsters.

Sign me up also. IOWA

I would like to get in on this. Our season dates are April 28th to May 31. I am located in Middleburg, PA and I plan to get out every saturday and if I know the call is coming to me during the week ahead of time I can most likely get a day off work to hunt it. I do have one question about how this is going to work. Are we hunting the call for one day then sending it off the next? Thanks
Corey
-
Corey, I'd say hunt it a day or two if you can. Just don't want folks hanging on to it for several days, as it could prevent the next guy from getting it to the next guy, and so on.
Ron Gould is working on a call for this. With 9 or 10 of us signed up, I figure that we don't need to do more than one call this season. If we had 20 guys I'd say regional calls would be a good idea.
-
The other suggestion is, since it's not that expensive, it should be mailed wih overnite mail.
-
Okay guys....
First off thanks for opportunity this is such an honor, at first I thought this will be fun then the reality of having to make a call for such a diverse group of call makers set in, knowing that the call would be critiqued from top to bottom.
What do I do (the pressure set in) what wood, what design, high pitch, lower pitch, what finish, ceramic, glas, crystal, slate? I was chasing my tail.
I finally settled down and decided keep it simple and go with what has worked for the past several years...I choose a new wood to me but loved the look and the tonal quality it has had in the few call I have made from it. I didn't woodburn it to leave space for all the signatures. The wood is Douglas Fir...the finish is 4 coats of tru oil....And I settled on good ole slate over glass.
As for the strikers I made two, a two piece walnut burl head with a ebony accent and purpleheart tip. The second one is a bubinga one piece that gives a little bit higher pitch for that windy day.
I'll be hunting it in the morning and plan to get it headed out by Tuesday, hope someone has some luck with it. :hunter1:
Again Thanks for the opportunity I wish everyone the best of luck and be safe out there.
Best of hunting.....Ron

That is a beauty!! The purple heart striker is the :censored:.
Any sugestions on what we should use to sign the call?
-
Its not perfect on the outside for sure but it has some turkey in it.....I'm guessing sharpy marker? Or a paint pen?
Someone else may have some better ideas? Ron
-
Got to hunt the call a couple days...interesting spring to say the least, weather hasnt been to best.
Worked two birds in opening morning and had a fox bust the birds out in front of my buddy and I, the birds were 60 yds or so and closing when this fox decides the try and catch one. They busted and flew up in the trees, they dropped back to the ground a little later but got out of there in a hurry. Worked a few birds 2nd day but nothing doing they had hens with em. Sent the call out to sharpshooter Tuesday. Good Luck Guys, Ron
-
Brother that sure is a beauty! Can't wait to have my turn.
Tony
-
Spoke to Sharpshooter, he said he had some bad weather and the birds wouldn't cooperate.
-
The call got to me today. I'm going to hunt her tomorrow and Friday morning. I know JWT has only a few days to use her so I will get her in the mail at lunch time friday.
Ron, she looks and sounds awesome!! I really like the purpleheart striker. It sounds great on that slate.
-
I've been so busy I really hadnt thought much about what Aaron said would be done with the call after its travels. My thoughts would be to give it to Al.... just like the duck call, that way he has the first travelin calls, they wouldnt even exsist had it not been for this site. So I think I'll send it to him afterwards. Any thoughts? Ron
-
I had my chance with the traveling call. It looks and sounds great by the way. Like Ron said, the birds were acting weird on the first day and I gully washer came on Sunday and rained me out. The gobblers liked the call a lot but with the hens and their general crazyness, I just couldn't seal the deal this time. :stickman1:
Good luck, hope y'all have better luck than I did. :hunter1:
-
Got a bird yesterday with a call made to the same specs as the travelin call, I posted it in the turkey huntin section. :hunter1:
-
Well I didn't get a shot at a bird. It wasn't for lack of trying. I hunted all day yesterday and til noon today. Saw a bunch of birds and could have killed a jake. We had 4 of them within 10 yards. I decided to pass on the jake because there were 5 gobblers on the other side of the field. All of them had 10+'' beards on them.
This morning I had one of those gobblers hammering at 75 yards and I couldn't talk him into range.
Traveling call is now on its way to Waylon. Hope he sees as much action with it as I did. I had a great two days of hunting with it.
-
I got the traveling turkey call today, but sadly won't get to hunt it, I have to head back to work this evening. I had to open it though and take a peak at it. Man, Ron sure does Make pretty call and sounds awesome. Put in back in the box and it will be on its way to Corey. Good luck.
Waylon.
-
Booooooooo........... Sorry man. We should have switched the order up so you could have gotten it sooner.
-
Darn hate to hear you didnt get to take it out.
-
just got the call in the mail today. Tomorrow is our opening day so I will be hunting with it then. The call looks great and sounds even better. I got my barrel cam all set up and hopefully it will get to record some action tomorrow.
Corey

Well got to hunt the traveling call this morning. Didn't get one but had one going all morning. He really liked the sounds coming from the call. He started gobbling on the roost a bit after 6 and once he hit the ground he wouldn't shut up. He was down over a knob where we couldn't see him. At first he was moving our way then headed off to our left and then came back in front of us all the while gobbling his head off. He just wouldn't come close enough to show himself. He finally shut up and that was the last we heard from him and he was the only bird we heard all morning. I am going to get the call in the mail on Monday and on its way to the next guy.
Corey
-
just put the call in the mail about 10 minutes ago, thanks for letting me be a part of this it was a real honor and the call is awesome
-
Sounds like you got close Corey...... Alright who's gonna pull the trigger......??? :hunter1:
-
we were definitely close, just couldn't close the deal. Was a great opening day though with my brother.
-
The call showed up in the mail today and it is a beauty. I don't think I'm going to be able to pass the call on when I'm done with it. I've been kicked out of the post office, UPS, Fed x and any other shipping places you guys can think of. I guess I'll just have to keep it. :pot: :pot:
-
does anyone know where Paul lives, i will go pry it out of his hands if i have to :hunter1:
Jason
-
Ottumwa, IA. :devil2:
-
Did Paul get lost??????? :duck:
-
I got to hunt with the call on Saturday and I talked with Jason today about passing it on. He is only 40 miles up the road so I will probably deliver the call in person.
-
Sorry guys, I've been really busy at work and this weekend wasn't much better.
I work the night shift and the only day I got to hunt with the call was Saturday. I finished up my Friday night shift at 3:40am, had to run around and drive like a wild man to get to my hunting spot before day light. The hunting was awful I didn't hear or see any birds.
I'm very pleased I was able to take part in the traveling call but I was caught on a bad weekend. I wish I could have taken it out more than once and I am looking forward to taking part in next years call.
-
Sounds like your season is going just about like ours is Paul. The birds are just about totally shut down around here. No gobbling on the ground, hens are on eggs, the gobblers aren't interested anymore. Pooey on the early spring we had.
-
About the same here..... going to take a guy in the morning and see what we can find. Ron
-
Any word on the call? Havnt heard much.
-
As of the 11th it was in the mail on the way to KFB Game Calls (Tony). He is already tagged out so he's going to turn it around and send it my way. Will let you know when it gets here.
-
Got it today!
-
You guys went easy on the ole call it made its way back home and hardly had a scratch (did you guys even take it out) I offered to send it on to Al... because if not for the site it would have never came about, but he persuaded me to just put it in my collection. So I'll clean a spot off for it.
Thanks again everyone for allowing me to be a part of such a neat endever. We'll gettem next year......Heres a few pics of her.
