Title: "Milky" Mineral Spirits?
Post by: lazyMlazyK on December 16, 2011, 07:24:48 PM
I've been wanting to try a Spar dip finish for some time, so I got a quart of it and some mineral spirits to cut it.  When I opened the mineral spirits jug up, I found out that this type of mineral spirts is a milky color.  I expected it to be clear.  Has anyone ever used the "milky" mineral spirits in Spar with success?  I'm trying it on two calls, one dark (walnut) and one light (spalted maple) to see what happens.  There is some dip that didn't come out of the lanyard groove, even hanging at an angle.  It's milky colored, so I'm hoping that it will just dry transparent.  Any recommendations?  Thanks for the input!

Kyle I tried the milky stuff and it didn't work for me. I wasted a whole can of spar. It left the call with a film on it. It is supposed to be and environmently friendly
Mineral spirits. I went back and got the regular stuff.

The enviro friendly stuff is OK to clean brushes and such but that's about all I would recommend to do with it. It may be/probably is OK for paints and other pigmented finishes, but still I steer people away from it.
