Title: does anyone due scroll saw work
Post by: Les Kuesel at Luv Kalls on September 21, 2011, 10:53:00 PM
I have been interested in doing scroll saw works (silhouette's and intarsia) So to today I got a great buy on a saw. Was wondering if any one here does scroll work and if they have any pointers? I did order a couple of books. One on basics of scroll saw and the other on north American animals.

Can you use a bandsaw as a scroll saw? I'm interested as well, can't wait to see what others got to say since I know nothing about it really. ~Andre

It has been quite a few years but I have done a little fret work and a fair amount of intarsia. Be patient and don't horse the saw and you'll be fine. The shaping and sanding on the intarsia pieces can be tedious but it is all worth it in the end. When I cut my intarsia pieces if I was working with 3 or 4 kinds of wood I would laminate all the layers of 1/4"-3/8" thick stock together with carpet tape and cut the whole pattern at once. By doing that you can make multiples of the same pattern with different color schemes.
