Title: bubinga donation call
Post by: Aaron at Wingerts Woodworks on June 12, 2011, 12:23:54 AM
Donating this one to the NWTF Flint Hills Gobblers chapter for their banquet.  One of their committee members has one of my calls, and says that there are at least five other committee members that are planning on bidding on this one.  They have the best youth program I've ever seen, and their banqet funds it, so hopefully they'll make a few bucks on it.

It is bubinga with blasted aluminum over glass.  Had the laser engraver do a little work on it too.

Ah Aaron, nobody can do it like you can, man everytime you post a call, I just sit looking at it while shaking my head. That is another beautiful call & one fantastic finish. That's not a tru-oil finish also is it?

Thanks Crawdad, I appreciate it.  Yup, Tru Oil.    Three coats, buffing between each with 0000 steel wool.  Hadn't ever tried it on bubinga and wasn't sure how it would do, but I'm pleased with the results.

:2up:  sounds like a good chapter.

They are Jon.  They're based in Emporia, and everything they do centers on the kids.  I went to their annual youth clinic a couple months ago.  Well over a hundred kids that were interested in hunting got some great exposure to shooting, turkey biology basics, bowhunting, ethics, etc.  I was very, very impressed.  The KC area lacks a decent chapter in my opinion, so I'm affiliating with the Flint Hills chapter from now on.  Can't go to their banquet because I'm in a wedding next weekend, and I'm just sick over it!  When I went to the youth clinic I was literally amazed how welcoming these folks were of a city-boy outsider.  I even sold a couple calls.  The last banquet I went to in KC, the committee members couldn't even muster a thank you for the calls I donated, let alone find it within themselves to introduce themselves or promote their chapter in any way.

Well I heard today that the call fetched a crisp $100 bill at Saturday's auction.  That'll go a long ways to helping that chapter do good work for their Jakes program.
