Title: Deer antler striker

I've been throwing around the idea of trying to make some strikers from antler sheds.  Curious if anyone has tried this.

You going to make just the striker head from antler or the whole thing?

I could see a striker head with a wood or acrylic dowel working. I have made a couple strikers from walnut and used a small piece of antler as the tip of the striker.

I'm wondering about using a whole tine as a striker.  I figure if you cut the tip then round it and scuff it right it should work.  Whether it would sound any good is another story

I would expect it to sound really hollow. I would also expect it to wear out to the point of useless pretty quickly. Antler is only solid for 'so deep'. Then, its marrow structure like any other larger/long bone.

It would be more worth your time to do something with a more normal material tip.

Also, working antler is VERY stinky and protect your lungs well from the dust. Remember it was once living bio animal product.
