Once again, there are two kinds of cocobolo. You have Mexican and Nicaraguan.   I think KC pointed this out to you in a post just a day or so ago.

Now, armed with that knowledge, you can go on the net and search for wood suppliers, call them and ask them what kind of coco they have.   If they are any good at all, they will know.   But you are going to have to do a little leg work to find what you want.   Sometimes you will get great wood, sometimes you wont, but over time, you will find one or two suppliers who you can count on to have what you want.   I think some guys like Glimmer Wood.  I've heard they have excellent wood and are very knowledgeable.   A place I personally like is Righteous Hardwoods   http://www.righteouswoods.net/  since they are only a hour from me and have one of the largest selections of burls you will ever find.   I know for a fact they stock Mexican Coco.  If you have a Rockear or Woodcraft store near you, you can check them out as well.   You get to hand pick what you buy.   Also try woodfinder.com  you might have a wood supplier near you that you don't know about.   I found two or three around me that I use sometimes so it's a great resource.

Not sure how dark you want, but Rivermallard keeps nice Mexican stuff on hand.  His is a good in-between...Not chocolate brown, but lots of black in it with a good mix of orange.  Definitely good looking stuff, and what I'd consider "textbook" cocobolo.  Haven't made a duck call from it in a while but here's what my last batch yielded:

I really, really hate the nicaraguan stuff.  For that orange color I can turn padauk at 1/4 the price!  I've bought some very dark stuff and some very light stuff at Woodcraft but like pretty much all their wood it was too darn wet to use for the next couple years.  Al suggested Gilmer Wood, and I bet if you call them and tell them what you're after you might have some luck.

Another option for you is Kingwood.  Kind of expensive, but it is much darker in most cases.

KC, thats some purdy stuff you have right there. For the most part, that is what most of my wood looks like, but you never know till you start turning it.

I had the pleasure of walking thru West Penn Hardwoods for a couple hours one Saturday. That place just keeps going & going!! They maust have 5 wearhouses chock full of wood. I don't recall if their Coco was marked Mex/Nic but I do know they had a bunch of it on hand. They were very easy & pleasant to talk to as well. Maybe they can help.
