Is the H8259 10" x 18" Bench-Top Wood Lathe any good? Just looking to upgrade from my OLD S.A. Porter Lathe.

I'm a huge fan of Grizzly tools and have a shop full of them...Big bansaw, cabinet saw, etc.  But, my personal opinion is that their lathes are not good quality.  Yes they'll get the job done but many of their features are not well thought out and I think the quality is questionable from the ones I've looked at and read stories about.  I will say that Grizzly has excellent customer service and will stand behind what they sell.

That lathe looks a heck of a lot like PSI's turncrafter series.  I hear good things about some of PSI's lathes but I have no experience with them.

My advice would be to save your money and spend a couple hundred more on a Jet, Delta or Rikon.

This is JMO I have the turncrafter pro vs and I also have a grizzly G0657 vs. The grizzly lathe is alot smoother running lathe than the turncrafter and alot more user friendly both will make calls just fine and both have good customer support. This model of grizzly lathe is about $135.00 more than the model that you were looking at but the vs is nice to have and you dont have to change the belts all the time. The lathe you are looking at will turn calls just fine and if you are on a limited amount you are wanting to spend it will work.
